Index Studio began from an unexpected place... After graduating from university, I found myself burnt out working in marketing, navigating a toxic workplace that eventually led me to step away to protect my mental health. I was lost, jobless, and unsure of what came next. During my university study in Dunedin, I had worked as a freelance makeup artist on weekends, so I decided to return to beauty. I picked up makeup work and started doing nails to fill my weekdays.

6 months in, I made a big decision. While doing makeup for weddings and school balls, I repeatedly saw clients arrive with over-waxed, poorly coloured brows - often leaving them upset and lacking confidence. I knew how powerful brows are, and I became determined to do things differently. I removed makeup from my menu, focused solely on brows, and built a service centred on full, natural brows and thoughtful, collaborative consultations where clients could truly see and understand my service process.

As demand grew, my calendar quickly filled weeks in advance. I hired my first employee, moved into our own salon space, and stepped into life as a small business owner.

Two years later, COVID arrived. It was a defining moment for small businesses across New Zealand. With a challenging commercial landlord and a lease ending, I took the leap into a larger space nearby. During lockdown, I designed and built the studio you see today myself  all from scratch. As the studio grew, so did the team, and Index Studio evolved into not just a brow and lash destination, but a collaborative home for like-minded beauty professionals.

Today, we’re proud to offer more than just beautiful brows and lashes. We’ve created a space where clients can feel calm, cared for, and truly seen. Whether that’s through meaningful conversation, quiet rest, or simply taking a well-deserved beauty nap. Our goal has always been the same: to help you feel confident on the outside, while supporting your inner growth through every season of life.
